DuTrac volunteers teach students how to manage a home budget

Pick your favorite career. Then learn how to live on the salary.

That's the process DuTrac Credit Union volunteers used to guide North Scott Junior High seventh graders through a financial planning exercise Nov. 14.

Students took checkbooks to tables labeled "housing," "utilities," "student loans," and other real world obligations.

If the expenses outpace the income, the students have to make different choices.

DuTrac representative Karen Tegeler said the hour-long exercise makes financial planning seem fun and manageable.
