"Chronicles" sweeps spring contest

Each year, the Iowa High School Press Association holds its spring journalism contest, giving young journalists from across the state a chance to be recognized for their school newspaper. This year, Durant High School’s Wildcat Chronicles walked away with 35 awards from the Class A (small school) category and three awards from the All-Class (all schools) category. This is the most individual awards the Chronicles team has won in a single contest.

After four months of training, Officer Anthony McKims officially joined the Wilton Police Department April 30, five days after his graduation from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Obituary: Larry First

Larry Lee First was born a leap year baby in Summerville, Mass., to Henry Gust First and Phyllis Giesel First.  He grew up in Detroit Lakes Minn., and Durant, where he (Ox) was known for his athletic talents in basketball, football, baseball and track. His name is on the wall at the Durant High School for the most basketball rebounds, numbering 791.  He married Gail Sannes (Normal, Ill.) and they had two beautiful daughters.
