Changes to Iowa’s Area Education Agencies (AEAs) have been a central focus of many Iowans this year. The reality is this - the status quo of Iowa’s special education system is not good enough, and something has to change. It is not just the legislature that thinks so. The federal government has designated our state as “needs improvement” and is starting in-state monitoring this fall. more

March 27, 1974: The North Scott School Board reviewed bids for the construction of a new junior high building. The low bids totaled $1.9 million for the 88,000 square foot building. Superintendent Melvin Heiler said the bids were higher than he would have liked, but there had been price fluctuations and concern over materials shortages in the months leading up to the bidding process. more
The Eldridge-North Scott Chamber of Commerce is what it is – a force for bringing people together and creating community – largely because of the efforts of Carolyn Scheibe who served as executive director for 15 years, retiring in 2016. Sadly, Carolyn died March 22 at age 70 after an extended illness. more

Dr. Robert H. Guenther, 94, died Friday, March 22, 2024, in Davenport. Burial will be in the Guenther family plot at Davenport Memorial Park. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. more
Frederick H. Koester, age 87, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday March 20, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, following a brief stay at the University of Iowa Hospitals burn unit due to an accident at his shop. A Celebration of Life get-together will be held at the Dixon American Legion on Saturday, April 20, starting at 2 p.m. more
Donna Marie Finkenhoefer, 70, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a five-year battle with cancer. more
Robert (Bob) Wichtoski, 74, of Green Bay, Wis., formerly of Long Grove and Davenport, passed away at his home in Green Bay on July 30, 2023. As his wishes, he was cremated. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park later in April. more
Carolyn Scheibe, 70, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on March 22, 2024, in Eldridge. She was born on Jan. 6, 1954, in Yankton, S.D., to Robert and Gwen (Nichols) Gunderson. more

Rick and Donna Sharp will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 6. Rick Sharp and Donna Wynn were married in Knoxville, Iowa, at the First United Methodist Church in 1974. Rick was a work experience coordinator at Davenport Central High School. He owned Sharp Driving School for 19 years and taught over 3,000 area students. Donna was an art teacher at North Scott Junior High for 35 years. more
