Obituary: Nancy Jones

Nancy K. Jones, 73, of Bettendorf, formerly of Ft. Worth, Texas, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.  Private family services were held but can be viewed by visiting Nancy’s obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com.  Burial will take place at a later date at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes or American Cancer Associations.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Nancy Ven Horst was born Aug. 19, 1947, in Davenport, a daughter of Harry and Mildred (Schnoor) Ven Horst. She earned an associate’s degree from Ottumwa Heights College and her LPN from Scott Community College. Nancy married Wayne Jones on May 24, 1969, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2013.

Nancy retired as an executive assistant for Nieman Marcus, Dallas, after 15 years of service.

Nancy was deeply rooted in her Christian faith and committed to her church.  She was actively involved in bible studies and volunteering, whether it was at the food pantry, visiting shut-ins, or helping out at Community Link, an afterschool program; if there was a need for help, Nancy would answer the call. She would give, and give, and give.  Nancy was also very creative and artistic and used these talents to make many beautiful projects.

Survivors include her son, TJ Jones; granddaughter, Sidney Jones, both of Ft. Worth, Texas; siblings: Mary (Doug) Stimpson, Bettendorf, Karen (Rod) Kluever, Delmar, Marsha (Dr. Mike) Beck, LeClaire, and Scott (Annette) Ven Horst, Eldridge; a sister-in-law, Suzy (Robert, deceased) Ven Horst, Bettendorf, many nieces and nephews and her extended Jones family. In addition to her husband, Wayne, Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert.
