Obituary: Laura Huff

Laura Frances “Fran” Huff, 98, passed away on April 3, 2024, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. A visitation will take place on April 13 at Weerts Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A service will follow at 1 p.m.  Burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park.  Memorials may be left to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue or River Bend Food Bank.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com.

Laura was born on July 19, 1925, to James and Catherine (McCubbins) Simmons in Raymondville, Mo.  Laura was united in marriage to Don Huff on Nov. 5, 1950, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Davenport.  Don preceded her in death in 1998.  Laura was in the work force for over 50 years, spending a majority of that time at McLeod & Bashaw Food Brokerage and retiring in March of 2000.  In her younger days, Laura was very involved with her church, St. Mark’s Lutheran, as a member of the choir, a Sunday School teacher, and participating in Luther League.  She was also a member of several different social organizations, including The Order of Rainbow for Girls, Grand Cross of Colors, Kaaba Shriners Clown Patrol, WIBC, and The Order of the Eastern Star in Davenport.  Laura also enjoyed staying active by biking, skating, and playing tennis.  In her later years, she was an avid league bowler.

Laura is survived by her two sons, Gary (Barbara) Huff and their daughters, Sandra (Scott) Steele, Karen (Eugenio) Velasco, Lesley (Jim Rezac) Lund, Allison (Jay) Rasmussen, Elizabeth (Jeremiah) Tanner, and Anne (Logan) Springer; son David (Kathryn) Huff and their daughters, Rebecca Huff, Meredith Huff; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and five older brothers.
