Obituary: Jerry Howell

Jerry Howell, age 77, died Nov. 14, 2025, in Pueblo, Colo. He was born Aug. 2, 1948, to Herb and Mildred Howell at the Naval hospital in Aiea, Hawaii, while Herb was serving active duty in the Navy. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dixon Legion on Dec. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Jerry graduated from Bennett High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served as a submarine sailor while stationed in Key West, Fla. After being discharged Jerry began a 20+ year career with the Davenport Parks System. In the mid-80s he moved to Colorado, where he worked at the US Air Force Academy while attending school to study computer science. After graduation Jerry worked as a computer network architect for Silicone Valley in the Colorado Springs area. He retired in 2004 and had a very busy retired life. He built two large houses, including all the electric, gas, plumbing, heating and interior walls. Jerry’s hobbies included motorcycling, keeping bees and working on various home and garden projects. He always enjoyed visiting his family during his trips to Iowa including the annual cribbage tournament and family reunion.

Jerry is survived by his wife, two stepdaughters and two grandchildren, four brothers, Tim (Holly), Tom (Merry), Stan (Sally) and Rod (Nancy), and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
