Gerald “Jerry” Unwin, 79, of Le Claire, passed away at his home with his wife by his side on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Per his request, private services are being held. Burial will be at Jack’s Cemetery in Le Claire. Memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to Living Lands and Waters, Rock Island.
Jerry was born on Jan. 5, 1944, in Oak Park, Ill., to Richard and Verna Unwin. He served during the Vietnam War with the United States Seabees. Jerry was united in marriage to Judy Scharff on Feb. 14, 1965. He was a member of the Local 105 Steelworkers Union and worked at Alcoa for many years. Jerry was an outdoorsman through and through; he enjoyed fishing and took great pride in his landscaping, especially with the many different varieties of hosta plants. Jerry loved to spend time with his family and took great pride in his grandsons.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 58 years, Judy; his sons Lee (Jill) Unwin of New Glarus, Wis., and Kent (Jennifer) Unwin of Eldridge; two grandsons, Carter and Miles Unwin; his siblings, Sue Asay, Marcia (Chelle) Unwin, Betty (Dan) Brieser, and Tom Unwin; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Verna Unwin.
