On Dec. 2, 1944, in Davenport, Ed was born to parents Anna (Vance) and Donald Nett. Following high school, he went on to obtain his associate’s degree. Ed worked as a mechanical designer until he retired in 1999. On Sept. 7, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Jill Sloan. Together they had nearly 50 years in each other’s company before Jill passed in 2017.

Ed loved all things wood, old, and repurposed. Using wood (often found at the ReStore), he could make anything in his workshop. It’s not just the “thing” that he made which was special, it was the love and time he put into the piece that his loved ones cherished most.

Family and faith was of utmost importance to Ed. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, where some of his woodworking pieces can be found to this day. Ed would set up for women’s Bible study every week, even after Jill’s passing. His love was a constant and will always be a constant.

Survivors include his children, Penny (Brian) Bonifant, John (Ivana) Nett; sister, Pat (Lynn) Snyder; grandchildren, Madeline, Elena, Caroline, Cameron, Anna (Harry), Jacob, Emma; cousin, Jim Vance; and an honorary family member, Ellen Burris.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Jill, and his parents.
