Visitation was Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s or Eldridge Fire Department. Dorothy died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at the Kahl Home of Davenport, surrounded by family.

Dorothy Mae Lage was born May 25, 1931, in Davenport, a daughter of Edward Henry and Dora (Scheel) Lage. She was married to the love of her life, Robert J. Beert, on June 10, 1949, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. They shared over 72 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2022.

Dorothy was a homemaker and later worked for the City of Eldridge for 20 years. Together, Robert and Dorothy were co-owners of Rustic Ridge Golf Course for over 25 years. They spent much time on the course and enjoyed many golf outings with family and friends.

As a woman deeply rooted in faith, she always put her family first. She enjoyed yearly shopping trips with all her girls, while sporting matching Christmas sweaters. A family event never went without her infamous Texas Sheet Cake and a bowl of Hershey kisses. Robert and Dorothy spent much of their retirement traveling, from an Alaskan cruise to the African plains, and eventually wintering in Mesa, Ariz. Above all, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her beloved family. Her gentle heart, comforting presence, and witty sense of humor will be surely missed.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Julie (Michael) Hoffmann of Eldridge, Robin (Trudy) Beert, Long Grove, and Sandra (Rik) Powell, Marion; a son-in-law, Bill Shockey, Eldridge, grandchildren: Scott (Jenny) Hoffmann, Dana (Dave) Virden, Todd (Angela) Sleep, Joseph (Alisa) Sleep, Stephanie (Kyle) Ganzer, Leslie (Billy) Hildebrant, Brock Beert, Bryant (Jenna Webb) Ferris, Luke (Shandy) Ferris; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beert, daughter Trudy Shockey; her parents; sisters and brothers-in law, Betty (Donald) Lynch, Shirley (Donald) DeWulf, Mary (Cecil) Weaver; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Lage. May they rest in peace.
