A private mass and burial was previously held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, for Dona Marlene Cawiezell, 86, of Eldridge, who passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, assisted the family with arrangements.

Dona Litscher was born on Feb. 21, 1934, in Scott County, the daughter of Ben and Emma (Dammann) Litscher. She married Thomas F. Cawiezell on Nov. 12, 1955, in Long Grove. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2000. Dona worked at the Eldridge Postal Office for 30 years, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #639 for over 65 years, and belonged to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. She enjoyed her card club, Thursday night bowling at the old Maysville Lanes, but most importantly her family and grandchildren. She could frequently be found cheering for her grandchildren at numerous sporting events, hosting family holidays, and continuing traditions from generation to generation. She had the kindest heart, gentlest hands, sweetest smile, and the most comforting words. She will be missed beyond words by her family and friends.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Scott (Pat) Cawiezell, Rita (Terry) Knutsen, Jennifer (Claus) Maass, Jake (Janine) Cawiezell, Joe (Lori) Cawiezell, grandchildren, Ben, Dallas (Stephanie) Cawiezell, Carl (Aimee) Knutsen, Kelsie (Ryan Glombecki) Knutsen, Kirbie (Dylan) Hartley, Max (Liz) Knutsen, Andy (Justine) Maass, Alex (Brooke) Maass, Will (Caitlin) Maass, Weston (Anna) Maass, Zoey, Thomas Cawiezell, Samantha (Trevor Krutzfeldt), Sara, Leigh Cawiezell, great-grandchildren, Roman, Ediline, Collins, Drake, Logan, Leo, Milo, and expecting three additional great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Grand Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care and Heartland Hospice for all of their care. Memorials may be directed to Grand Haven Retirement Activities. Online condolences may be shared with family at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com.
