This afternoon, at approximately 2:00 PM, North Scott High School initiated a precautionary lockdown after two students responsibly reported to school officials that another student might have been in possession of a weapon. There was no direct threat made to any student or staff member.
For safety measures, school staff immediately placed the High School on a precautionary lockdown, and the police were called. Due to the proximity, North Scott Junior High and Ed White Elementary School were also placed on a soft precautionary lockdown.
The Police Department and administration conducted a thorough search of the building, and no weapon was found. The situation was handled swiftly and effectively, in full accordance with the school district’s safety protocols. As is standard practice in cases such as this, there will be an ongoing police and school district investigation.
The North Scott School District is grateful for the students who came forward, as their actions allowed officials to act upon the situation quickly and without incident. The safety of our students and staff remains the top priority.
The district wants to reinforce the importance of the "see something, say something" policy and encourages all students to report any safety concerns they may have to a trusted adult. We ask parents and guardians to encourage their student(s) to advocate for a positive and safe school environment and to report any health and safety concerns to appropriate staff or to them, so that North Scott can remain safe, open, and student-centered.
The North Scott School District sincerely appreciates the continued support and understanding of its community.
