William P. Carlson, 92, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Fieldstone of Dewitt. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will held from 12 p.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in William’s name to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the family to be dispersed over several charities. He will be laid to rest at Elvira Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
William was born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Clinton County to Arthur and Minnie Carlson. He was the youngest of four children with his siblings being Glenn, Vern and Edna.
On Aug. 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to DeLores Stoefen at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. They shared 61 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2012. He was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
William served in the U.S. Army for two years. After returning from the Army, he farmed in Clinton County for many years. After retiring from farming he worked for A.D. Huesing until his second retirement in 1995. Some of his favorite memories with his family were the vacations they took in Colorado. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed making wood projects for his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Debbie (Mike) McGregory and Craig (Julie) Carlson, all of Eldridge. He will be fondly remembered as Grandpa Billy by his grandchildren, Jenny Bayles, Melissa (Tim) Von Muenster, Ben Carlson and Katie Carlson. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jordan Bayles, Jake Bayles, Cole Bayles, Lane Von Muenster, Lauren Von Muenster and Sam Von Muenster; brothers in law, Gary (Brenda) Stoefen and Mike (Judy) Stoefen.
William is preceded in death by his parents; his wife DeLores; daughter, Lori Carlson; brothers, Glenn Carlson, Vern Carlson and sister, Edna Murphy.
