Funeral services for Viola Faye Spinsby, 92, of Davenport, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial followed at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Family greeted friends on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Viola passed away on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at Harmony Utica Ridge, Davenport.

Viola Birney was born on March 5, 1934, in Princeton, on the farm to Orvie and Lillie (Fletcher) Birney. She was the youngest of four girls, Zella Erling, Millie Lively, and Edna Dodds. Her and her sister Edna would ride their pony a mile to their one-room school and as always, the pony would get loose and run home, so always a long walk home. Their teacher Bessie Sierk (who was their cousin) taught them “Old Maid” and they ran home blabbing about playing cards, and that was the end of playing cards. Vi was a very quirky little lady, there was her way and no other way. On June 14, 1952, she married Russ (Spinner) Spinsby in Princeton. They have two children, Vickey and Rusty Spinsby. Vi worked for Bridgeview School in LeClaire for most of her 33 years. She and the principal (Ray Andregg) started together and retired together. Those to honor and cherish her are, Vickey (Sharon Moore) Spinsby, Rusty (Cathy) Spinsby of LeClaire, grandchildren, Jake (Bobbi) Spinsby, Brad (Rosie Hanneke) Spinsby, Andrew (Elizabeth) Spinsby, Lisa Moore and Russ Moore. Eleven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, “JR” her little poodle, her parents, her in-laws, her siblings, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.

The family would like to thank everyone at Harmony in Davenport and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful and loving care to the end.
