Steve was born Oct. 23, 1955, in Davenport, the son of Elmer and Ruth (Jacobsen) Jurgens.  He graduated from North Scott High School in 1973.  On April 6, 1979, Steve was united in marriage to Cheryl Drumm in Davenport. He worked as a feeder truck driver for UPS for 34 years, and also farmed with his father for many years.  He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was farming, planting beautiful flowerpots, grilling, entertaining, or just out driving and exploring the countryside. Steve was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan, loved spending time with his family, and being a grandpa to his three grandsons.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Cheryl Jurgens of Long Grove; children, Lana (Kurt) Tucker of Iowa City, and Jay (Sarah) Jurgens of DeWitt; three grandsons, Liam, Ellis, and Nelson Tucker; his mother, Ruth Jurgens of Eldridge; and numerous aunts, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; sister, Linda Jurgens; and father-in-law, Don Drumm.

The family would like to thank the health care workers at the Mayo Clinic, University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, and hospice workers for their compassionate care and support throughout Steve’s courageous battle with lung cancer.
