Obituary: Roger Blake

Roger Dean Blake, age 68, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport. A visitation was held from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, June 18, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport.  A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 19, at the church.  Burial took place in Maysville Cemetery. The family requested casual and relaxed attire.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mississippi Valley Fair Youth Dairy Show or Scott County 4-H.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Roger was born in Davenport on May 16, 1955, the son of Chris and Deloris (Van Den Berghe) Blake.  He graduated from North Scott High School with the Class of 1973.  Roger married the love of his life, Jodi Haars, on April 27, 1985, in Davenport.

Roger was a dairy farmer his entire life.  He loved his 200 special ladies in the dairy barn and knew them all by name.  Roger was passionate about raising Holsteins and showcasing them every summer at the Mississippi Valley Fair.  He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his granddaughters.  He also enjoyed his nightly bowl of Blue Bunny ice cream and frequently “resting his eyes.”

Roger will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Jodi; two daughters, Cara (Brandon) Richmond and Callie (Matt) Rammelsberg; four granddaughters, Mya, Bria, Aria, and Emersyn; and one grandson due on June 30, 2023; seven brothers and sisters, Karen (Lonny) Ganzer, Randy (Cindy) Blake, Rick Blake, Keith (Colette) Blake, Kathy (Geoff) Polzin, Kevin (Cindy) Blake and Karol (Keith) Martz; and his mother-in-law, Beverly Gustafson.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Deloris; and one sister-in-law, Sallie Blake.
