A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert J. Wellner, 88, of Davenport, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Davenport. Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park at a later date.
Mr. Wellner died Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.
Robert Wellner was born April 28, 1931, in Fairbank, Iowa, the son of Oliver and Nellie (Shannon) Wellner.
He married Bess Magee on Dec. 30, 1950, in Dunkerton, Iowa. She preceded him in death.
He retired from Alcoa (Arconic) in 1992 after 40 years.
He was inducted into the Iowa State Bowling Hall of Fame and was a past president of the Davenport Bowling Association.
His hobbies were bowling, deer hunting, and watching baseball.
Survivors include his daughters, Jill Sager, St. Louis, Mo., and Marney (Todd) Tope, Davenport; his grandchildren, Paul Sager (Todd Pettit), Jill Huff, Eric (Carrie) Sager, Kelsey, Mason, Brennen and Mallory Tope; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cletus (MaryAnn) Wellner; and a sister-in-law, Dawn Fisher.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and a sister, Marie Reichen.
