Obituary: Robert Maher

Robert T. “Bob” Maher III, 73, a resident of Princeton, died on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his beloved family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Princeton.  Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1949, on the U.S. Air Force Base in Yokohama, Japan, the son of Robert and Donna (Wood) Maher Jr. and was a 1967 graduate of North Scott High School in Eldridge.  He later attended and earned his bachelor of science in mathematics degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.  While attending college, he was a founding member of the Foxes, where he made many life-long friends.

Robert worked as an engineer for Case IH in East Moline and Bettendorf, retiring several years ago.

He loved to go fishing at Yellow Lake in northern Wisconsin, enjoyed golfing, was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events and was especially fond of the companionship of his “grand-dogs.”

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Monica (Troy) Gagne of Mahomet, Ill., and Clint (Angie) Maher of Eldridge; and his grandchildren, Keegan and her fiancé, Jacob, Karsyn, Reegan and Ryder.

 He was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Darnell, and by his parents.
