Obituary: Myron Lensch

Myron A. Lensch, 95, of Davenport, formerly of Walcott, peacefully passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at The Fountains Senior Living in Bettendorf.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory.  Funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, in the Runge Chapel, with burial following at Davenport Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to: Walcott American Legion #548 or the Friends of Veterans Memorial Park Davenport.  Please share condolences with the family at www.rungemortuary.com.

Myron was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Davenport to William H. and Ruby (Langmann) Lensch.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, being stationed in Tripoli, Libya.  Myron was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Geurink on Sept. 22, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on May 20, 2019. 

Myron and Bev farmed near Walcott for 25 years, where they raised three children.  He worked for U.S. Senator Roger Jepsen for two years in the Davenport office, and then retired from US Bank where he worked as an ag loan officer.

Myron was proud of his military background and was an active member of the Walcott American Legion #548 for 70 years, serving as post Commander and several other positions.  He served in their Honor Guard for many years, where he was privileged to give over 50 families an American flag at the funerals of fellow servicemen. 

Myron liked to be involved.  He served for 20 years on the Scott County Veterans Affairs Commission, assisting other veterans with benefits, and was a founding member of the Veterans Memorial Park Davenport.  He worked to establish Fire District #6 in Scott County, served as a Muscatine County Cemetery Trustee, was a member of North Scott Rotary, where he and Bev served as a host family for exchange guests.

Myron was a very social person who loved to go dancing, traveling, and on cruises with Bev, enjoyed happy hour, talking with new and old friends, and volunteering wherever he felt he could help. 

Survivors include children Michelle (Don) Schaeffer, Davenport, Lee (Anita Stockman) Lensch, DeWitt, and Melanie (Marty) Richardson, Ankeny; “like-a-son” nephew Bill Lensch, Rock Island; grandchildren Brook, Caitlin (Scott), Kelsey, Courtney (Pietro Vannini), Amanda (Will), Drew (Hannah), Jake (Meg), Ben, and Erin (Alex), bonus gkids: Morgan (Kyle), Tate; great-grandchildren Landon, Parker, Mikayla, Carson, Clara, Bridger, Grace, Emmett, Kelton, Brecken, Easton; and brother-in-law Don (Cindy) Geurink.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother Bryson Lensch; sister Marlene Miller; and brother-in-law Ken Geurink. 

The family is extremely grateful for the staff at The Fountains for their loving and compassionate care given to Dad over the last 10 months ~ they are truly wonderful people!
