Lowell was born on Sept. 21, 1938, the son of Elmer and Laverna (Paustian) Gehrls in Lowden. He graduated from Sunbury School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, Lowell proudly served his country in the Iowa National Guard.
Lowell was a dairy farmer in Donahue his entire life, until selling the herd in 1992. After retiring, Lowell continued raising livestock on his farm. He also served as a greenskeeper at Glynns Creek Golf Course, where he found a treasure trove of wayward golf balls that he shared with his friends. Lowell enjoyed fishing, his dogs, feeding his birds and playing cards, especially Sheepshead. Most of all, Lowell loved spending time with his family and friends.
Lowell will be dearly missed by his daughter, Jodee (Kevin) Tippet of Park View; three sons, Craig (Mary) Gehrls of Eldridge, Todd (Kathy) Gehrls of Donahue, and Kent (Jennifer) Gehrls of Eldridge; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Madonna Sagers.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Donovan Gehrls.
