Obituary: Harry Arp

Harry Arp Jr., 92, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Genesis East. He was born on the family farm on Blackhawk Trail Road near Eldridge, the son of Harry and Leona (Dreyer) Arp, on Nov. 4, 1931.

He graduated from Davenport High School on June 9, 1949. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was a 50-year member of the Dixon American Legion Post.

In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and “cooking the catch” afterwards. He enjoyed coin collecting and loved to discuss this hobby with his brother Allan, also a coin collector.

He was employed by the City of Eldridge for 20 years. Memorials may be made to the Eldridge Fire Department or a charity of your choice.

He is survived by a sister, Geraldine Meyer of Walcott; a sister-in-law, Shirley Arp of Davenport; his caregiver and nephew, Brent Arp of Walcott, plus many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; seven siblings, Darlene Eike, Luetta Slattery, Lorissa Grabbe, Thyra Halden Missfeldt, Erwin Arp, Ralph Arp, and Allan Arp.

He was a kind and loving man in his own special way. He will be missed.

Services honoring Harry’s life were held Monday, Nov. 20, at Weerts Funeral Home. Harry was laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.
