Obituary: Dwight Dickman

A funeral service for Dwight J. Dickman, 84, of Eldridge, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, with Pastor Sara Olson-Smith officiating. Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Garnavillo (Iowa) Community Cemetery.

Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Dickman died Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, in Davenport.

He was born April 30, 1939, in Garnavillo, a son of Elmer and Mary (Gill) Dickman.

He married Darlys Bosch on Dec. 27, 1969, in Pella.

Dwight spent his whole career working for the local telephone company in northeast Iowa, before retiring from US West in 2000.

His hobbies included watching Yankees baseball, hunting, fishing, building model trains, and reading. He enjoyed genealogy, and nothing was more important to him than family. His greatest joy came from spending time with all the grandkids and attending their various activities.

Those left to cherish Dwight’s memory include his wife, Darlys Dickman of Eldridge; sons Dan (Paula) Dickman of West Des Moines, and Scott (Janelle) Dickman of Eldridge; grandchildren Alex, Anna, Sam and Tim Dickman; sister Deb (Steve) Anderson of Waukee; sisters-in-law Karen Dickman of Waverly, and Barb Bosch of Des Moines; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother David Dickman; and brother Dennis Dickman.

Memorials may be made to Camp Shalom in Maquoketa or St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport.
