Obituary: Donna Furrow

Donna M. Furrow, 83, of Park View, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at her residence.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Jackson County 4-H or to the family.

Donna was born on Nov. 20, 1940, the daughter of Herbert and Lenora (Heneke) Carstensen, in rural Clinton County. She graduated from Miles High School in 1958. On Nov. 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Roger A. Furrow. Donna was a devoted wife and mother, supporting her children in all of their endeavors.  She served as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, UMYF youth counselor, and Sunday School superintendent. Donna was a lifelong seamstress and quilter.  In addition to doing custom alterations and sewing out of her home, she taught adult education sewing classes for the Davenport School District for over 20 years. For many years she was a volunteer at Pioneer Village and was currently serving a third term as Long Grove Fire Department commissioner.  Donna was also a member of QC Quilters Guild and former member of the United Methodist Women and Iowa Quilters Guild. 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roger Furrow of Park View; children, Kathleen (Christopher) Myers of Graettinger, Allen (Lori) Furrow of Davenport, and Rodney Furrow of Maquoketa; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Lane, Sue Barry, and Barbara Goettig; brothers, Paul (Elyse) Carstensen, Ronald (Susan) Carstensen, and Steven Carstensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Charles Lane and Roy Goettig.
