Dennis Arlo Fahrenkrog passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, with his family by his side.  There was a visitation from 8:30 a.m. till 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Runge Mortuary, followed by a funeral service at 10a.m. in the Runge Chapel.  Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.  Condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.

Dennis Arlo Fahrenkrog was born Oct. 20, 1935, to Norma (Martens) and Emil Fahrenkrog in Donahue. He and his sisters, Marilyn, Betty, and Ardis, grew up on their Donahue farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse.  He graduated from Davenport High School in 1954 then served in the United States Army (1954-1956), stationed in Ft. Lewis, Wash.

After his enlistment, he married Alberta Porter in 1957 and they made their home and family of three children, David, Randy, and Keri in Eldridge.  He enjoyed being active in his kids’ lives by coaching their baseball/softball and serving as a Boy Scout Troop leader.

Dennis farmed, drove a milk truck, and was most known for his gas truck and Standard Oil business. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Eldridge for over 20 years, was a member of the Donahue American Legion, Donahue Sportsman’s Club.

Dennis was an avid fisherman, with a guys trip to the Cedar River each year and summer vacations with Al, where they “never drank.”  The yearly ice fishing trips with his sons and grandsons brought many laughs and stories.  He loved playing baseball, one of his joys was playing with the Donahue Sportsman’s for many years. He always had a joke or story to tell, more often than not - they were not G rated.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty Kraft and Ardis Rekemeyer, and many other family and friends.  Those left to honor his legacy are his three children: David (Dianne) of Sherrard, Ill., Randy (Carol) of Bayfield, Wis., and Keri (Eric Boel) of Grimes.  Eight grandchildren, Matt, Jason, and Adam (Stephanie); Brooke (Mike), Jake (Gretchen), and Molly (Max); and Faith (Connor) and Nora.  And 16 great-grandchildren. His sister, Marilyn Dengler, and many nieces/nephews.
