David C. Leamer, 56, of Eldridge, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 (today), at Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport.  Visitation was held on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton.  Memorials may be made to the church or to Scott County 4-H.

David was born Nov. 23, 1966, in Davenport, the son of Charles C. and Frances A. (Ehlers) Leamer.  He was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School.  David was united in marriage to Cheryl L. Christensen (Lannoo) on Dec. 31, 2011, in Argo.

David farmed with his father on a small farm in Argo, raising sheep and cows, to name a few of their endeavors. This passion stayed with him, as he and his wife took many drives through Scott County gravel roads to “check on the crops” so he could point out to her where the corn needed rain or the beans were ready to harvest. He worked 28 years at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, looking forward each year to Fair Week and the Motorcycle Swap meet, where he was reunited with his friends that he loved like family.

He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ and was proud to serve meals to the hungry through Churches United and make sandwiches for Humility Homes and Services.  He enjoyed planning and tending to his vegetable garden, planting enough to stock his and his sister Deb’s freezer for years. He spent many days sitting in his garage feeding and watching the birds in his yard.  He also loved the company of family and friends, chatting frequently on the phone with them. His two sons were his pride and joy.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cheryl; his children, Levi Leamer of Des Moines, and Chase (Sydney) Leamer of Donahue; Amanda (Craig) Morrison of Bettendorf, and Kati (Mark) Godden of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his step-children, Justin and Sara Christensen, both of Eldridge; his mother, Frances Leamer of Bettendorf; his sisters, Debora (James) Sullivan of Davenport, Diana Holst of Eldridge, and Donna (Scott) Wiederin of Breda; his loving aunt, Arlene Ehlers of Blue Grass; and several grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father; his uncle, Chuck Ehlers; and his nephew, Derek Sullivan.
