Carolyn Laura Paustian, age 95, of Walcott, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport. A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, at the church. Carolyn was born on April 24, 1928, the daughter of Waldo and Ruby (Wiese) Kluever, at their farm home in Scott County. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1945. She worked as a teller at the Donahue Savings Bank until her marriage. Carolyn married Dale H. Paustian on Nov. 13, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. They were married for 60 years until Dale’s passing on Feb. 19, 2010. They lived on the family farm near Walcott for 25 years before moving to town.
Carolyn served as 4-H leader for many years and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. She was also active in Farm Bureau and Extension council. She was an officer of PTA when her kids were in school. Carolyn served on the Mississippi Valley Fair Board for 10 years and she was on the Scott County Library Foundation Board. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Plus 60 club, and the Golden Wedding Club. Attending grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities was her greatest joy. Her second love was rides out the farm to see if “The Boys” were getting the work done.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Kent (Marcia) Paustian of Walcott, Darsa (James) Clay of Kansas City, Mo., and Ross (Carol) Paustian of Walcott; eight grandchildren, Matt (Jen) Paustian, Mike (Amy) Paustian, Terri (Nate) Hansen, Tracy (Chris) Deal, Tom (Meagan) Paustian, Jenny (Allen Callender) Paustian, Ryan (Maggie) Clay and Jamie (Chuck Pitman) Clay; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; one brother, Aaron (Janet) Kluever; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin (Mardelle) Lamp; one nephew, Lee Lamp; and one niece, Karen Ross.
The family would like to thank the staff at Davenport Good Samaritan for their dedication over the past six years.
