Burnette “Bea” B. Marten, 89, of Long Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 (today) at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the mortuary. Her final resting place will be in Mt. Joy Cemetery, Park View. Following the cemetery, lunch will be at Lady Di’s Park View Inn. Memorials may be made to the Long Grove Fire Dept., Boy Scouts Troop 203 Long Grove, Winfield Wippoorwills 4H, or NSFFA. Condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
Bea was born July 19, 1934, in rural New Liberty to William and Anne (Flenker) Ganzer. She married Louis C. Marten on Oct. 16, 1968, in Quincy, Ill. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2001.
Bea’s first job was with Red Jacket Pump, where she worked until marrying Louis and moving to the farm to become a farmer’s wife. Later she would go to work for several years at Park View Water, from where she retired.
With her husband, she was active in Jackson County Horse & Harness Association. She enjoyed playing cards, horse sales, farm auctions, pony rides, and tootling around on her moped. She raised ducks, geese, and turkeys, loved to dance, especially the “Twist,” and babysat all of her grandchildren, who she always found chores for.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Mike (Glenna) Rohlf, Judy (Robert) Disney, and Daryl (Patty) Marten, all of Davenport; grandchildren Jami (Ben) Rathjen, Dean (Angela) Marten, Jimy (Makenna Spillman) Marten, Jeb Marten, Carissa McCabe, Ryan Killeen, Melanie Killeen, Tosca (Chrystal) Clements, Joseph Clements, and Bryson (Jonisa) Clements; great-grandchildren Emery, Cora, Hadley, Raven (Preston Rueber) McCabe, Phoenix, Destiney, Takota, Andria, Nicole (Brian Brown) Clements, Steven Clements, and Amanda (Brock Young) Clements; and great-great-grandchildren Starla and Riley.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bea was preceded in death by son, Dean in 2019; grandsons Todd and Troy Clements; and granddaughter Micaela Clements.
