Obituary: Bruce Mohr

Bruce Mohr passed away June 28, 2026, in Cañon City, Colo., of cancer with his family nearby.

Bruce was a hard-working farm kid, who dedicated his working life in Cañon City to teaching history and social studies to others’ kids in the Fremont (Colo.) RE-1 School District for more than 30 years.

He was also devoted to his wife, Yvonne Ann Miller, and their retirement life in the ponderosas near Black Mountain in south Park County, Colo. The couple spent winters amongst friends in Tucson, Ariz. The pair enjoyed hiking, wildlife and bird watching, reading, and discussing “the markets.” They met in grade school, married in 1967, and defined the idea of life-long partners.

Bruce loved seeing and hearing of the exploits of his children and grandchildren, whether it was the guitar business, politics, choir, running, soccer, or schoolwork. A black-capped chickadee would greet Bruce nearly every morning as he filled bird feeders, often perching on his shoulder.

Bruce was born Nov. 2, 1945, in Eldridge, as the first of eight children of Harlan and Dorothy Mohr. He received degrees from North Scott High School, the University of Northern Iowa, where he played football, and the University of Northern Colorado. The U.S. Army drafted Bruce in 1968.

Bruce will be missed by his wife, his children (Erika of Bend, Ore., and Jason of Helena, Mont.) and their spouses (David Kline and Becky Albertson), his grandchildren (Linden (10), Espen (15), and Solveig (19)), and other family and friends.

Bruce asked for his remains to be cremated and for no memorial service. The family scattered his ashes in the mountains. He may be best honored by supporting Habitat for Humanity, which he worked with for 20 years in Tucson, Ariz., participating in a local conservation project, or going to a baseball game.
