Bonnie J. Gorsh, 82, a resident of Wheatland, formerly of Long Grove, died on Saturday, July 4, 2020, in Davenport, with her family by her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wheatland. Burial will follow at Long Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday (today) at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established. Due to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing will be encouraged as well as wearing a face mask.
She was born Oct. 16, 1937, in Lancaster, Iowa, the daughter of Holland and Grace (Wallerich) Gilliland. On Oct. 20, 1956, she married to Donald L. Gorsh in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2001.
Bonnie retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1988.
In the North Scott area, she was a leader in 4-H. She and her husband started the Mississippi Valley Softball League, building a softball/baseball field on the farm and coached. Bonnie volunteered for over 20 years at the Carroll Assistance Center and was a Boy Scout leader. She enjoyed helping others, being with family and friends and traveling.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Victor (Michele) Gorsh of Long Grove, Char (William) Lingle of Davenport, Ricky (Tami) Gorsh of Blue Grass, Charlene Burns (Brian Schlussel) of Wheatland; step-daughter, Joyce (Delbert) King of Marengo; her brother, David Gilliland and her sister, Joyce Hahn, both of Sigourney, Iowa; 15 grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Cindy; brother, Donnie Gilliland; four stepchildren and two step-grandchildren.
