New plan for GOP convention includes mail paper ballots

The Republican Party of Iowa announced that the 2020 State Convention, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, will not be convening in person due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the State Central Committee voted unanimously to mail paper ballots to all state convention delegates.

Party officials said using paper ballots for the district convention process proved to be an overwhelming success. RPI reports that over 80 percent of delegates participated in the mail-in process, which is higher participation than in-person district conventions.
