July 27, 1994: Around 500 dead fish were collected from the banks of Lake Huntington near Scott County Park, after they had thrown themselves onto the shore. State biologists said that this phenomenon, which had been occurring in lakes across Iowa that summer, was the result of low oxygen levels in the water caused by weather conditions and abundance of decomposing plant life.
