Joan McQuillen will celebrate her 90th birthday with a celebration and open house hosted by her children on Saturday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Muscatine Church of Christ, 3603 Mulberry Ave., Muscatine.
Joan Kay (Stewart) McQuillen was born to Thomas and Jessie (Arnold) Stewart on April 22, 1936, in Iowa City.
She graduated from Atalissa High School in 1954 and married Richard E. McQuillen in 1955. The couple began farming in 1960 just north of Moscow. Joan worked on the farm alongside her husband and also worked at the Cove Restaurant, Wheel-Inn Skelly until she took over the Wilton Cafe in 1973. She later purchased and operated the Ribeye from 1978 until 1994.
The couple retired and spent their summers in Park Rapids, Minn., and wintered in Moscow. Richard passed away in 2014, and Joan moved to Crystal Lake, Ill. In 2022, Joan moved to Muscatine, where she resides today. She is an active member of the Muscatine Church of Christ.
Joan has five children, Tom McQuillen of Moscow, Terry Giese of Woodstock, Ill., Linda Evenson of Phoenix, Ariz., Jean Jensen of Hartford, Wis., and Jim McQuillen of Muscatine. She also has 13 grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren and 21 great great-grandchildren.
