In a dramatic turn of events Saturday, May 4, law enforcement agencies collaborated to bring a high-speed pursuit to a halt on the rural roads of Iowa, resulting in the arrest of Khurishan Ismoilovic Bursunov, a resident of Boise, Idaho.
The chase commenced when officers stationed near West 5th Street, close to Nicolaus Drive, spotted a black Harley Davidson Motorcycle with no plates disregarding traffic regulations by speeding through a stop sign while making a turn onto Hwy 38.
Ignoring commands to halt, the driver accelerated, initiating a pursuit that escalated to dangerous speeds, surpassing 115 mph.
The Wilton Police Force, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Muscatine County Sheriff's Office, and the Iowa State Patrol, pooled their resources to apprehend the reckless driver.
The pursuit traversed multiple roads, with the suspect attempting to evade capture by heading westbound on Interstate 80 before veering north on Hwy 38 towards Tipton.
The fugitive turned onto 290th Street, only to discover it was a gravel road. Struggling to maintain control on the loose surface, the motorcycle careened into a ditch, bringing the chase to a close.
Emergency services rushed to the scene to attend to the injured driver, identified as Khurishan Ismoilovic Bursunov. He was promptly transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical treatment before being taken into custody without further resistance.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Bursunov was in possession of a stolen motorcycle, marking the beginning of a litany of charges against him.
Authorities charged him with a Class D Felony for possession of a stolen vehicle, in addition to another Class D Felony for eluding law enforcement.
Furthermore, Bursunov faces charges of drug possession, with authorities discovering cocaine and marijuana in his possession at the time of arrest.
Alongside these serious charges, Bursunov was cited for failing to obey a stop sign and speeding, compounding the legal troubles awaiting him.
Following his medical treatment, Bursunov was promptly transferred to the Muscatine County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
