James (Pete) Hall, 72, of Wapello, died April 17, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after battling COVID-19.

All friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Life Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the South End Park in Wapello. Everyone is encouraged to bring a chair and wear masks.

Born July 10, 1947 in Burlington, he was the son of Jimmy and Kathelyn Hall. He was raised in Wapello, where he graduated from high school. He served in the Navy for six years, after which he was honorably discharged and returned to Wapello to help on the family farm.

He went on to work at Monsanto for 27 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he worked as a farmhand for Eddie and Peggy Yotter until his fight with cancer. After winning the battle with cancer he went to work at the Wapello Republican and was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s activities.

Pete enjoyed being outside doing yard work or being in his garden. He also enjoyed spending time with family during frequent gatherings. He was a member of the local Nazarine Church, and the American Legion Post of Oakville. He also volunteered with the Milestones Area Agency on Aging meal program and drove the veteran’s van.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carol Lee (Boorn) Hall; sisters Rubie (Tony) Czerwinski of Scottsdale, Arizona and Kathy (Rick) Logsdon of Omaha, Nebraska; four children, Vincent Royal of Wapello, Jodi (Robert) Royal-Goodwin of Muscatine, Brad (Trisha) Hall of Mitchell, Nebraska, and Debra (Leon) Wilson of Burlington; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and two brothers, Gary and Dennis (Butch) Hall.
