Helen Vera Sims, 58, of Durant, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Burial will take place in Durant Cemetery.

Helen was born on Dec. 7, 1963, the daughter of Wilfred and Yvette (Fontaine) Trainque in Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from Davenport West High School. She married Dennis “Duke” Sims on Aug. 9, 1997 in Durant.
She loved people and tended bar at the Dew Drop Inn and the Lampliter Inn. She was also a property manager for Elevate Living for many years. Helen enjoyed DIY home projects and decorating. She also enjoyed participating in pool and bowling leagues. Helen enjoyed watching her husband, Duke, play in various men’s fast pitch softball tournaments. Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her girls, their families and her dog, Charlie.
Helen will be dearly missed by her husband, Dennis; three daughters, Kristy (Shawn) McLaughlin of Davenport, Amy (John Birkhofer) Mathis of Moscow and Stephanie (Brandon Bousselot) Sims of Durant; six grandchildren, Isabelle, Slade, Trevor, Amelia, Jaxan and Samuel; and five siblings, Louise (John) Erps of Davenport, Lucy (Kevin) Pallescheck of Tucson, Arizona, Peggy (Dave) Hintermeister of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Bea (Al) Besick of Agency, Iowa and Jerry (Juna) Trainque of Clarksville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one aunt, Barb Connelly; and one nephew, Joey Goulet.
