Obituary: Mary Hansen

Mary Adaline Hansen, age 93, of Walcott, formerly of Durant, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant.  A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home.  Burial took place in the Melpine Cemetery, rural Durant. Mary was born in on July 18, 1930, the daughter of John and Josephine (Barclay) McClean. She graduated from Wilton High School and later earned her teaching certificate from Muscatine Community College.  Mary was united in marriage to Richard E. Hansen, Sr. on Aug. 12, 1951, in Davenport.  Richard died on July 17, 1996.
Mary was a teacher for many years before starting her family.  She then became a homemaker, who loved taking care of her family.  In her younger years, Mary bowled with the “Mom Bowl League” in Bettendorf. Mary was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton and was a Durant Lioness.  She was a caretaker and former board member of the Melpine Cemetery.  In her retirement, Mary loved traveling globally with her husband, Richard and after his passing her close friend, Marilyn Dengler.
Mary will be dearly missed by her two sons, Dr. Richard (Cindy) Hansen, Jr. of Moline, and Robert Hansen of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Jacob Hansen; three step-granddaughters, Elizabeth Kelly, Joy Garcia, and Anna Garcia; three sisters, Sue (Don) Norton of Durant, Amy Woodhouse of Durant, and Judy Hemmen of Wilton; and one brother, Joseph (Pam) McClean of Kansas City, Mo.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and her siblings, Doris McClean, Robert McClean, David McClean, Laura Norton, Lucy Daufeldt, and Jane Smith, and two infant siblings, John and Caroline McClean.
