Head-on I-80 crash claims two lives

A head-on collision on Intestate 80 near Walcott in Scott County killed two people and injured one on the night of Dec. 26.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 1999 Chrysler Concorde driven by Amanda Countryman, 30, of Compton, Illinois was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 around 11:25 p.m. Dec. 26, when her vehicle collided with a 2020 Infiniti QX60 driven by John Keane, 27, of Bronx, New York.

According to the report, Countryman’s vehicle had been reported multiple times as driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. Her vehicle struck Keane’s at the 285 1/2 mile marker head-on. Countryman was killed as a result of the crash. Keane was injured and transported to Genesis East by Walcott EMS. A passenger, Connor Reisenbilger, 28, of New York, New York, was also killed.

The incident remains under investigation. The State Patrol was assisted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo Police Department, Walcott Police Department, Medforce and Medic EMS.
