Obituary: Robert Thede

Robert B. (Bob) Thede, 76, of Wilton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton after a 16-year battle with COPD.  A public graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11,  at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bob Thede memorial fund.

Bob was born in Muscatine on Jan. 26, 1947, to Bill and Kate Woodhouse Thede. Bob graduated from Wilton High School with the Class of 1965 and attended Muscatine Community College.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves for six years. Bob married Donna M. Kile on Feb. 3, 1968, in Lone Tree.

Bob farmed in Muscatine and Cedar counties and raised cattle along with his wife Donna.  He was a longtime member of the Muscatine County Fair Board and was an Honorary Fair Board member, where he enjoyed all the friends he made over the years.  He and Donna had a lot of good times at the Iowa State Fair, camping with friends and watching kids show their 4-H projects.

Bob enjoyed a good card game, playing games on his iPad and watching old westerns.  Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed gatherings and visiting with friends.

Bob is survived and loving remembered by his wife, Donna; son, Mark Thede of Wilton; daughters, Angie (Richard) Sandburg of Ainsworth, and Brenda (Jeremy) McIlrath of Grinnell; and his grandchildren, Nick and Derick Sandburg, Dylan and Ryan McIlrath and Kaitlyn and Madelyn Thede.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Denise Thede.
