Wilton/Durant Memorial Day plans

COVID-19 causing more abbreviated programming

Posted

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s annual Memorial Day services in Durant and Wilton will be more abbreviated.

But one thing people can still do is pause at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day for a moment of silence to remember and honor those who have made the greatest sacrifice.

Observances in Wilton and Durant will include the following, and are subject to change:

In Wilton

The Wilton American Legion and Auxiliary Post #584 will not be holding traditional Memorial Day parade or ceremonies this year. They will instead have an honor salute at Oakdale Cemetery on Memorial Day, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. to honor veterans. It will be held at the Soldiers Monument. In case of inclement weather the salute will be canceled.

In Durant

The Durant American Legion Post #430 is planning on performing the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Durant Cemetery on Memorial Day, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be postponed, as the Durant school gym is not available for indoor use this year.
