Wilton Lions Club meeting Jan. 9

Editor's note: The following was submitted by Chester Stanfield of Blue Grass, with regard to trying to revive the Wilton Lions Club.

As we enter a new year, we welcome members of the Wilton community to join the newly forming Wilton Lions Club. We will be revisiting Wilton beginning Monday, Jan. 6 to answer any questions you may have and accept membership applications.

Lions is a family-oriented organization open to both men and women over the age of 18 and we encourage family involvement. Being a Lion is a great way to encourage young people to have community spirit and a good feeling about volunteering. Organizing a Lions Club requires 20 members to charter a new club and we need additional members to join and meet the 20-member requirement.

The previous Lions Club in Wilton had a strong presence within the community. It was chartered in 1932 and was very active for more than 81 years supporting and serving the Wilton community until the club turned in its charter in 2013. The club just aged out.

Lions Clubs are focused on several areas including diabetes awareness and AC1 screening, eyesight and KidSight screening, food drives for local food banks, and childhood cancer. We partner with libraries, schools, fire and ambulance departments, and city government to provide services and assistance wherever needed.

We have an organizational meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Wilton Bank located at 618 W. Fifth Street, Wilton. For more information, contact Blue Grass Lion Chester (Stan) Stanfield at 417-291-5311 or stan.stanfield68@gmail.com.
