We have finally sprung forward

Posted

A couple weeks ago, I received a call at the Advocate News from a gal regarding a resale shop in Wilton. Apparently she saw something on Facebook. I said I was not aware of one but I would see what I could find out and get back to her. As it turns out there is a resale shop in Wilton. I called her back and let her know she was correct. She asked what else there was in Wilton to do because she would be coming from Lisbon to visit the resale shop. I told her there is an antique store, an old fashioned soda shop, a café for lunch, and a little retail shop to name a few.

The following Monday, she called to let me know that she made the trip to Wilton and had a great time. She and her friend spent more than two hours here. Had lunch at the café and said the food was wonderful. They also really liked the little retail shop and all the fun things they had in their store. I thought it was pretty cool of her to call and let us know that she enjoyed her time in Wilton and that the Advocate News is being used as a source of information for the community. The weather was nice during their visit, and here’s to hoping the warm weather will become less sporadic!

Well folks we have sprung forward, let the warm weather begin. Hopefully it will stay warm for more than just a couple days in a row. While summer is my favorite time of the year, spring is a precursor to it. You know, getting me all primed up for the really warm days. Can’t wait.

Spring refers to love, hope, youth and growth. The seasonal symbolism for this period may also allude to religious celebrations such as Passover or Easter. In 2020, the spring equinox (also called the March equinox or vernal equinox) falls on Thursday, March 19, which is earlier than it’s been in more than a century. For much of the last century, the spring equinox has occurred on March 20 or 21. This year, however, the equinox happens on the 19th in all U.S. time zones, making it the earliest spring we’ll have seen in our lives (so far). The last time spring arrived this early was in 1896 — a whopping 124 years ago!

To me one of the best things about spring is that everyone starts coming out of their houses and doing things outside. When I’m walking I love hearing kids outside playing and laughing, the smells of people cooking out on their grills, and the sounds of birds chirping.

Not only is March 19 the first day of spring, it is also National Let’s Laugh Day. We have all heard the saying, “laughter is the best medicine.” When you and a friend have those long bouts of uncontrolled laughter that end in tears and aching stomach muscles that last a good 10 minutes or longer, you burn between 10-40 calories per 10 minutes. So, keep giving each other those “don’t look at me or I’ll start laughing again” looks and you’ll keep right on burning more laugh-healthy calories and you’ll enjoy a good memory, too!

So here is a little something to make you laugh — “Spring – when you realize you’re allergic to all the things you love.”

“Spring is here. I’m so excited I wet my plants.”

Have a great week!
