Tom was born on Dec. 26, 1957, the son of Roland “Blimp” and Betty Lou (Kroening) Hartley in Iowa City. He married Deborah Goldermann on Nov. 29, 1980, in the United Methodist Church of Wilton. Deb passed away on Nov. 3, 2022.
Tom dedicated his life to hard work and family. He also worked as a truck driver for Hedden Truck Lines and later at West Liberty Foods, retiring in 2002. He and his wife, Deb, also operated Pizzoo & More in Wilton. A longtime member of Grace United Church of Christ in Wilton, Tom’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He found joy in the simple things —riding his motorcycle on the open road, playing cards with friends (especially Gin Rummy and Cribbage), and camping under the stars. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved dogs.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Jason (Heather) Hartley of Wilton, Amanda Hartley of Wilton, and Jeremiah “Mia” (Christi) Hartley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three grandsons, Brock Hartley, Briggs Hartley, and Thomas Hartley; one brother, Rich (Pat) Hartley of Carroll; one sister, Lori Hadley of Wilton; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deborah; two sisters, Kathy Furne and Sue Hartley; and a brother-in-law, Robert Hadley.
