All five seats on the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors are on the ballot for the June 7 primary due to redistricting.
Candidates provided The Wilton-Durant Advocate News with a short description of who they are and why they are running for office.
District 1
District 1 covers the southeastern portion of Muscatine County, including Fruitland and southern Muscatine.
In the Republican primary, incumbent Santos Saucedo is running against Danny Chick, Jr. There are no Democratic primary candidates.

I am a proud, lifelong Muscatine County resident. I have been employed at Bayer for the last 25 years as a project manager. My lovely wife and I have five children and five grandchildren.
I have the honor of serving as the supervisor for District 1, where I have a proven track record of decisively advocating for the issues that are critical to both families and businesses in Muscatine County: public safety, housing opportunities for all, economic growth, accessible healthcare, improved education for our children, and reduced excess spending here in Muscatine County.
Danny Chick, Jr.
I am running for supervisor because of my love of our citizens and our community. I believe I can provide transparency to the board’s actions. I also guarantee excellent communication to anyone that reaches out to me with questions or concerns.
I am not you cookie-cutter politician. I strongly believe that accountability of elected officials is paramount. I will always vote for what I believe is best for our community. I will never be considered a member of the good ol’ boys club. I will always strive to be fiscally responsible with your tax dollars while always pushing for community growth regarding increased housing and employment opportunities.
District 2
District 2 covers western Muscatine County, including Conesville, Nichols, West Liberty, and Atalissa.
In the Republican primary, Zeke Walker is running against Kurt Kirchner to fill retiring incumbent Doug Holladay’s seat. There are no Democratic primary candidates.

I am 26 years old, and I’m running for Muscatine County board of supervisors. I am a lifelong Muscatine County resident and I am eager to contribute by serving my community as supervisor. I will work to ensure that Muscatine County has a small, smart, common-sense government.
Muscatine County elected me to the Ag Extension Council in 2020, and I look forward to further serving the county as a supervisor. I have also been endorsed by state Sen. Mark Lofgren, state Reps. Mark Cisneros and Bobby Kaufmann, County Attorney Jim Barry, Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark, Muscatine city council member Angie Lewis, state house candidate Taylor Collins, and Muscatine School Board member Ken LaRue.
Kurt Kirchner
I have lived in Muscatine County my entire life. I am a 44-year employee of Liqui-Grow with extensive experience in the ag industry and knowledge of the challenges faced by rural communities.
My wife, Sue, and I reside on the Kirchner family farm just north of Nichols. We have been involved in ag our entire lives. I have been a member of the West Liberty Country Club for 15 years, served as a 4-H leader, and served on the Muscatine County Fair Board for over 30 years.
My main goal in going after the supervisor’s role is to support county services and functions that increase overall quality of life for the people who live here.
District 3
District 3 covers eastern Muscatine County, including Wilton, Durant, Stockton, Blue Grass, and Walcott.
In the Republican primary, incumbent Scott Sauer is running unopposed. There are no Democratic primary candidates.

I am a life-long resident of Muscatine county. I have owned small businesses in the community for over 30 years, including Scott’s Outdoors and Big Bay Storage, along with farming operations.
I am running for re-election to the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors to use my diversified management experience to keep Muscatine County with a fiscally sound budget and to continue working at making Muscatine County a strong community and a great place to call home.
District 4
District 4 covers central and northern Muscatine, as well as rural land immediately northeast of the city.
In the Republican primary, incumbent Nathan Mather is running unopposed. There are no Democratic primary candidates.

My wife Jill, my three kids, and I are all Muscatine natives. We are proud to build our lives and future here. My parents – an eye doctor and a school librarian – taught me the value of community, hard work, and giving back.
I have been privileged to serve as a county supervisor for six years and am eager to continue our efforts to improve services, develop our infrastructure, and keep Muscatine County moving forward. With your support, we can make our corner of Iowa a better place to live, work, and play.
District 5
District 5 covers northwestern Muscatine, between the Highway 61 bypass and central Muscatine.
In the Republican primary, incumbent Jeff Sorenson is running unopposed. There are no Democratic primary candidates. Sorensen’s candidate information was unavailable by press time. It will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Wilton-Durant Advocate News.
County Treasurer
One seat is up for election. Incumbent Republican Amy L. Zybarth is unopposed.
County Recorder
One seat is up for election. Incumbent Republican Sara Bodman Hearst is unopposed.
County Attorney
One seat is up for election. Incumbent Republican James P. Barry is unopposed.
