Paulette Marie Salyars, age 79, of Wilton, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, at the funeral home. Paulette was born on Feb. 23, 1946, the daughter of Lyle and Geraldine (Phelps) Barkalow in Muscatine. She graduated from Wilton High School with the Class of 1963. Paulette married Billy R. Salyars on July 31, 1970, in Kirksville, Mo. Billy passed away on Oct. 6, 2008.
Paulette dedicated over 30 years working for CDS in Wilton. Paulette enjoyed visiting casinos, watching Iowa Hawkeye girls’ basketball and football, and scratch off lotto tickets. She was also a NASCAR fan and loved watching her nephews race stock cars. Above all, Paulette loved her family. She spent much of her time surrounded by them, whether it was gathering for celebrations or spending quiet moments together. Her warmth, humor, and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Paulette will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Paula (Charlie White) Barkalow of Muscatine, and Tricia (Jon Koppenhaver) Salyars of Wilton; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patti Burns of Davenport and Judi (John) Nicol of Moscow; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins
Paulette was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; and three children, Gerri Lynn Ratzlaff, William Salyars and Geoff Salyars; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Gaunt and Lila Barkalow.
