Ronald was born on Dec. 15, 1942, the son of George and Frances (Wittman) Bierkamp in Durant. He graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1962. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He married Judith L. Gehrls on May 6, 1972, in Walcott. Judy passed away on May 21, 2023.
Ron dedicated his working life to carpentry, a trade he was proud of and excelled in. Over the years, he lent his talents to C.T. Schact, Bill Grunder & Sons, and later Paper Lumber, from which he retired in 2021.
Ron found great joy in the outdoors and spent countless hours gardening, hunting and fishing. A proud Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he rarely missed watching a game and also rooted enthusiastically for the L.A. Dodgers. He also enjoyed trips to local casinos, where he savored the thrill of a lucky spin.
Fittingly, his passing occurred on his and his beloved wife’s wedding anniversary - a testament to the deep bond they shared. Ron will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep love for his family, and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his son, Jason Bierkamp of Durant; a sister, Bonnie (Doug) Redfield of Pasco, Wash.; a brother, Bob (Annette) Bierkamp of Indianola; and his canine companion, Patches.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy; two sisters, Shirley Willis and Pat Munn; and two brothers, Richard and Frank Novak. Ron’s family and friends would like to thank the staff at Harmony Davenport for the loving care they provided him over the past 15 months.
