Obituary: Delmar Brus

Delmar Lee Brus, 86, of Walcott, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus in Davenport. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.   Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in the Walcott Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Walcott Firefighters or the Durant Ambulance. 

Delmar was born in Scott County on June 12, 1935, to Charles and Martha (Wilcken) Brus.  He married Arnola C. Koeppe on Feb. 22, 1964, in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2017. 

Delmar farmed his entire life in Scott County and sold DeKalb seed for 25 years.  He was a member of the Walcott Community Club, Davenport Moose Lodge and was a sanitary engineer at the Mississippi Valley Fair grounds for 27 years. 

He enjoyed restoring antique tractors.  Especially, helping his brothers restore their father’s original 1939 Minneapolis-Moline tractor. For the last five years, he was the “official” greeter and watchman at Courtyard Estates in Walcott.  He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club for over 50 years.  After retiring from playing cards, he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

Delmar is survived and lovingly remembered by his children: Dennis Brus of Walcott, David Brus of Davenport, Debbie Brus of Walcott, and Denise (Eugene “Lee”) Westendorf of Eldridge; two grandchildren:  Sydney and Brody Westendorf, brother Melvin (Betty) Brus of Walcott, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Vernon Brus.
