Steven P. Swift, 71, of Moscow, Iowa, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family, after his second battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Steve was born March 29, 1950, the son of Vernon and Madeline (Orth) Swift. He graduated from Wilton High School with the class of 1968. Steve was married to the love of his life, Phyllis J. Hicks, on Dec. 5, 1970. He worked for HJ Heinz for several years, retiring in 2000.

Steve, known as ¨Big D¨ by family and friends, enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his wife and children. He loved traveling south for the winter, and he never left a campground without getting to know his neighbors and camp host. He also enjoyed cooking, and you never visited him without being served a new recipe he’d mastered. Steve was the hub of the family and was always the first person that anyone would call no matter what was needed.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis; three children, Scott (Tammy) Swift, Shelly (Jerry) Hayes and Shane Swift; four grandchildren, Courtney, Abbie, Austin and Ashley; one great-grandson, Baylor; his siblings, Richard (Carole) Swift, Cathy (Brad) Phillips and Joe (Tina) Swift; a special niece that was near and dear to his heart, Shawna Ormsby; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Madeline Swift; and his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Pat Swift.
