Obit: Philip Madden

Philip K. Madden, 76, of Adrian, Michigan died on Oct. 29, 2019 at Tecumseh Place, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Phil’s cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Phil’s life at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Adrian, Michigan, where he was a member, on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m., with an early dinner. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Phil was born on March 18, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska to Manley and Mary Lou Madden of Villisca, Iowa. He graduated from Villisca high school in 1961 and graduated from Peru State University in Peru, Nebraska.

Phil was active in the insurance industry most of his adult life, starting with Page County Farm Bureau and in the mid 1990’s, he established Madden Equine Insurance and specialized in horse related insurance. He also established his horse boarding, breeding and training business and was fortunate to have five world champions and many reserve world champions. His love for horses never died.

Phil lived in the Wilton area from 1982 until 2014 when he and Chris moved to Michigan to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

Phil is survived by his wife, Christine Madden, Adrian, Michigan; his son Tad Madden, Shambaugh, Iowa; his three stepdaughters Kelly Schmidt (Jim), of Brooklyn, Michigan, Michelle Dykstra, Manchester, Michigan, Nikole Fether, Adrain, Michigan; his three grandchildren, Taryn, William and Peyton; his sister, Suzy (Dave) VanHooser, Littleton, Colorado, and their children; and many cousins.
