Lura Lee Kappeler, 88, of Walcott, formerly of Durant, died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Courtyard Estates of Walcott. Per her wishes in 2014, visitation and funeral services will not be held. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 12 at Durant Cemetery. Memorials may go to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant.
Lura “Lee” was born on March 17, 1933, the daughter of Ernest and Mae (Kuhl) Kroeger in Eldridge. She graduated from Central High School, Davenport. She married Don Henning in 1952 and was widowed in 1953. She married Wayne Kappeler Nov. 5, 1955. They were married 58 years, until Wayne’s death in 2014.
Lee is survived by her three children; Doug (Glenda Huntsman) Kappeler of Durant, Luanne (Stan) Kappeler-DeBraal of West Bend, Wisconsin and Teresa (Mike) Flack of Durant; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (John) Betchkal, Gen Brown (Robert “Bix”) Bixenman; and brother, Kurt (Judi) Kroeger.
Lee was preceded in death by her; husband, Wayne; twin sister, Erna Wolf; brother, David Kroeger; and son, Mark (Henning) Kappeler.
