Esther Edna Ovesen, 87, of West Liberty, died Dec. 31, 2019 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Visitation was held Jan. 5 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. Funeral Service was Jan. 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Compassus Hospice. Esther was born on May 15, 1932 in Muscatine, the daughter of Howard and Edna Belle (Martz) Toyne. She graduated from Muscatine High School and later from Muscatine Community College. Esther married Harold Ovesen on June 19, 1952 in Wilton.

Esther was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family and worked beside her husband on the farm. In her younger years, Esther taught country school.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton, where she was active in the Ladies Aide and Quilting Circle and the Cedar County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed wintering in Texas with her husband, Harold and playing in card clubs. Esther also enjoyed sewing, quilting and treasured spending time with her family and friends.

Esther is survived by her husband, Harold; her son David (Teresa) Ovesen of Hurst, Texas and daughter Carol (Joel) Mayberry of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Chad (Julia Hager) Porter, Amos Mayberry and Sam Mayberry; one great-grandson; and one brother, Clarence (Sandra) Toyne of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Vernon Toyne.
