Dean B. Weaver, 85, of Boone passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2020, at his home. A graveside service will be held with family only in attendance at St. Peter’s Evangelical Cemetery in Geneva, Iowa.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Dean was born on Jan. 31, 1935 in Jefferson, Iowa, to Arthur and Dorthy (Higgins) Weaver. He attended Dana Schools, until his graduation in 1953.

Dean had a lifelong love for learning. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a B.S. Degree in 1957. While attending the Iowa State Teachers College, Dean met his wife in one of his classes. Dean was united in marriage with Ellen J. Abbas on June 8, 1958 at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Geneva.

Dean also graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a M.A. Degree in 1967 and Drake University with an Educational Specialist Degree in 1969. His passion for education was a 43-year long journey, impacting hundreds of students, across Iowa and Kansas. He served as a teacher and coach, a principal, a superintendent of schools, and an Iowa Area Education Agency administrator.

Dean and Ellen lived throughout eastern Iowa up until their move to Kansas in 1990, where Dean served as a school superintendent until his retirement in June of 2000. After retiring, Dean and Ellen moved back to Ogden, Iowa, to be closer to family, then moving to Boone in 2010. Over the years in the area, Dean looked forward to helping his brother, Gary, during harvest. He and Ellen also enjoyed their regular Friday night outings with friends to restaurants in Boone, Ogden, Grand Junction, Jefferson or Perry.

He was active in the American Association of School Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa, and the Institute of School Executives. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone and the Masonic Lodge in Ogden. He enjoyed golf, reading, and meeting friends for coffee and cards every morning.

Dean is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Ellen Weaver of Boone; son, Dr. Dennis D. (Lori) Weaver of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter, Kathy J. Weaver of Boone; grandchildren, Kyle Weaver of Murfreesburo, Tennessee and Kendall Weaver of Brentwood, Tennessee; brothers, Dale (Elaine) Weaver of Ottumwa and Gary (Mary) Weaver of Rippey; and sister-in-law, Iola Weaver of Portage, Michigan, as well as a number of other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dorthy Weaver, and his brother, Royal “Noland” Weaver.
